Hello Everyone and welcome to the Alternative fuel blog site. We advocate in finding ways to solve the problem of high gas prices, and find ways for alternative fuels. This is the blog site of www.alternativefuel.ws. In connection with today’s Earth Day celebration I am happy to open this blog to bring awareness to the current condition of our planet earth. The alternativefuel website deals with how can we change from using gasoline to power our car to other forms of fuel that has less or no adverse effect to our environment. This is Earth Day so I find it a good timing to start this blog site.

It is spring in the USA, Thus, leaves of the trees start coming out, flowers start blooming and the world is beautiful. From the bulbous tulips and daffodils to the tall magnolias, crab apples, and cherry trees, the entire surrounding is colorful. This happens every year. And every year it rains in spring, the grass becomes green again, the birds sing and visit the shrubs and trees in my backyard, and the bees are happy collecting nectar from the flowers. Again, this happens every year.

We are very lucky and blessed. We do not feel the alteration of nature’s cycle in our surrounding. Life goes on as usual. We still have four seasons every year, we ride our cars for business and leisure, we do our routines according to seasons: spring cleaning in springtime, vacation and beach in summer, halloween and foliage cleaning in fall, and christmas decoration and shopping in winter. How lucky and blessed we are.

But it is earth day! What effect has this to our lives. Let me tell you what happen to the other parts of the world. Haiti- a father has no food for his children that he gave his kids away to anybody who can feed them. Moldova- In four years the country has experienced drought. 70% of its economy depends on agriculture. In the Philippines- shortage of rice and high food price drive more people to poverty. These are some of the scenarios we see in connection to Earth Day.

Some people demonstrate to the street urging politician and government officials and persons in power ( I mean corporate power) to do something: to curb green house gases, stop denuding our forest, even to stop eating meat and be a vegetarian, stop polluting our rivers and ocean, stop big commercial fishing, stop logging, solve the problem of high gas prices, and find ways for alternative fuels.

I would highlight one important issues some concerned citizen have raised in this Earth Day celebration: stop mining (mining entails clearing the forest to prepare the site for digging. Most of the time there are more trees being cut than minerals extracted from the earth. Then, for some minerals, mercury or cyanide is used to purify them. These catalyst (mercury, cyanide and other highly toxic and poisonous chemicals) escaped to the environment due to unregulated mining practices (yes, because as long as the gold, copper, nickel, silica, etc. are extracted, nobody cares about anything anymore whether the waste is kept in safety or not). I think this is the issue that most of us have to be concerned in this Earth Day. We will talk more about this later. There are more subjects envolved in this issue.

Most of all, earth day should be concerned about FAMILY PLANNING. This paragraph stops here. More about family planning soon.

Well, This is America, but we are not free from pollution neither. This can be seen from the plastic bag on a tree in the middle of the photo. Locally, we are not really polluted. Some areas are not lucky. There are rivers that are highly toxic for decades and cleaning is at a snail pace. Some rivers retained, in their guts, chemicals from factories that produced batteries. Bathing and fishing are strickly prohibited. The rivers might be polluted in a third world country. But some of the rivers in the USA are deadly. No wonder cases of cancer are normal here. Chemicals such as asbestos are widely used for decades here. Asbestos is found to cause cancer. It had been widely used from house materials to ensulation due to its fireproofing quality. Now, we have to run away from a house that has asbestos in its basement.

Here is one nice photo of sunset in spring time.

A crab apple in spring.

In the USA we have schedules for garbage collection, recycling, and other trash or heavy holdhouse wastes and metals. This is our advantage from other places on earth. This give us the edge of keeping our community clean and conserving our environment. I wish, one of these days before we leave this earth, most of the civilized world will take care of our refuse and dispose them properly.
